For Their To Be Change Everyone Needs to Participate

The Future Leaders Team at the World Business Council for Social Development have put together this 2 minute clip to show how we need to work together as one:
Three protagonists work together to balance the world, and discover that this balance can only be achieved with all three business, governments and NGOs working together.
All in all I think it is a well produced video and does a great job of showing viewers that only by working together can we turn things around.
The problem I have though is that a critical piece is missing…. CITIZENS and consumers.
In my mind, this is a huge missed opportunity as citizens/ consumers play a key role in addressing our social / environmental problems, and historically they are the ones who have catalyze governments, corporations, and NGOs to take action. It is they (citizens) who get sick, cannot find water, or breath dirty air, and it is they (citizens) who typically “go on a stroll” through” main street to make their voices heard.
At the same time it is they (consumers) whose consumption patterns have defined how corporations behave, and it is they (consumers) who need to be apart of the process so that they can understand how they have an impact.
And it is only when all of us come together will we begin to change the way WE as a people think about our society.. about our environment
