China.Org has another scary example of the problems that China is facing, illegal dumping of waste into its fresh water systems. As we saw last year in Wuxi, and as recently shown in Hebei where cadmium and arsenic were dumped into the water sickened many and killed crops, China must find a way to bring citizens, NGOs, media and law enforcement together to effectively identify and deal with dumpers.
The waste water comes from seven sand washing plants located on the south bank of the lake.
The sand washing plants were set up in Sanbing Township at the beginning of this year. They use lake water to wash raw sand and discharge untreated waste water directly back into the lake. The discharge has created a large area of black silt along the shore.
