60 Minutes Covers eWaste in China

With consumers buying and using electronics for many of their daily needs, dealing with the waste has become a big issue.  Recently, this has been a topic as millions of Americans have been forced to buy new televisions … even though their old ones had yet to fail.

Firms like Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics retailer, have been forced to respond by working with their brands to put into place recycling programs… and while many of these goods are not allowed to be simply shipped off to third world countries.. the reality is that a lot of eWaste does make its way back to China.

This week, 60 minutes will be covering this story. How consumer electronic waste is being exported from the US recycling programs to China for recycling,  its effects, and  the people behind the scene.
