Hainan Yedao Group to Open Large Cassava Bio-ethanol Plant
Business is Green is reporting that there will be a very large Cassava bio-ethanol plant opened soon by the Hainan Yedao Group. According to the article:
China-based Hainan Yedao Group has reportedly invested $51.5m (£31.8m) in a new biofuel facility that is expected to produce 33 million gallons a year of bio-ethanol from cassava plants.
this is a project simliar to one I have had several friends work on in the same geographic area that was a tough one. Financing and growing conditions aside, there was push back as infation rose earlier this year.
The most interesting quote to me though:
The government has also signalled its support for the biofuel sector, with 10 of the country’s 22 provinces in China mandating the use of ethanol-blended gasoline in cars.
Sounds simliar to my home nation where the majority of senate seats are held by corn producing states… and the biofuel decisions they have made.

Yeah this announcement is from July.
Assuming China’s non-grain-based ethanol production does not rapidly increase over the next two years, the country will fall short of its 2010 target by 2.3 billion litres per annum and will likely need to import at least 1.9 billion litres per annum if it seeks to keep up its 10% ethanol blending requirement across ten provinces.
The only current non-grain projects are a cassava based plant which is up and running in Guangxi, and this Hainan Yedao project, which has yet to receive approval I believe.

Hi John.
How did Green drinks go tonight?
I knew the majority of projects/ proposed projects were going on there, but this seems to be the announcement for the project.. not just the project announcement.
