China to Paint Itself White to Fight Global Warming. Uh – April fools?

I have no idea if this is a huge April fools, but the China.org article China to be painted white to fight global warming immediately caught my attention.

Initially in the article, I was able to follow the plans that the roads would be painted white, a huge change for me, but ok… I’ll buy that.  employees a lot of people, would be a reflective surface, and given the limited amount of research I have seen… I guess that would reduce the heat.

But, it was the following passage that went to far, and if this isn’t an April fools joke, it is a really sick one:

In another move all government employees will be obliged to wear white clothing and hats

Now, I am not sure if this is based in science, or if there is a belief that wearing white would imcrease interest in science and medicine, but the idea that making everyone to wear white clothing and hats is comical and I hope I am here to capture that.

then, it was the passage that they would genetically modify crops to grow white vs their natural color (see pictures – obviously photoshoped).

I will be the first one to agree to the fact that we need to, as a collective, begin changing the way that we interact with mother earth, however this “plan” is just half-cracked…. and as the person being quoted specifically states…

“This is not a gimmick, we are deadly serious. People should know by now that China means business.”

My guess is that even the reporter was having trouble working out if this was some April fools joke.
