When one thinks og Green washing, typically it is associated with a large campaign to fool someone into thinking that a product or brand is more environmentally friendly than it really is.. but what about Green Fanning?
This morning, I picked up this fan (See back) in the office while at a colleage’s desk and, because we had a moment of pause in the conversation, took a minute to look more closely at it.
From Bridgestone, a global tire firm, this fan consists of four bears wearing green shirts that say “Make Green Cars”. At first glance it was a cute message, but totally ineffective as (1) it was in english (2) the average user of the fan was not a producer of cars (3) the fan did little to tie into a Bridgestone program and (4) the fan, due to its design, did not create a real breeze.
so, the whole thing was a wash, with one exception. It focused my attention on the fact that Bridgestone’s, as a major tire manufacturer, should be focused more on better tire design, and better use of tires after their life on the wheel of a car comes to an end.
Which, to Bridgstone’s credit, is explained on their Sustainability website. A website that probably should have been on the fan.
