Want to Drive Energy Savings? Make Energy Expensive

I am not sure whether it was under the influence of my Econ 101 professor, or my father the energy consultant, but somewhere along the way it was beaten (not literally) into my head the the more expensive an item is on an incremental basis you make something… the less people will use of it.

They will look for ways to save, and it is my hope that the recent announcement by the NRDC will do just that:

The National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement on Oct. 16 that it has released new regulations on power pricing, which include a ban on special discounts for industrial users.

Keeping in mind that this is going to be enforced at the local level, there are certainly going to be some exceptions made to this rule, however if it is possible to remove these on any level it will be a positive step i nteh right direction.

Possibly could result in some new investments in efficient equipment, energy audit services, and the like.
