The Department invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor / Associate Professor post in Resource Management and Environmental Studies.</p>
<p>Applicants should have a PhD degree in geography, environmental science or other related disciplines, specializing in one or more of the following fields:<br />
—      energy resources<br />
—      environmental assessment and policy<br />
—      sustainable development<br />
—      global change and mitigation</p>
<p>Preference will be given to those with substantial experience in resource management and environmental sustainability research in China.</p>
<p>The appointee will teach both introductory and advanced courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as general education courses. He/She will be expected to demonstrate potential for teaching excellence, and to contribute actively and productively to research programmes. Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing January 2010, leading to longer-term appointment or substantiation later subject to performance, funding and mutual agreement.</p>
<p><strong>Salary and Fringe Benefits</strong><br />
Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical care, plus a contract-end gratuity for an appointment of two years or longer and housing benefits for eligible appointee. </strong></p>
<p><strong>This is a full-time position based in Beijing, with a one-year contract signed after a one-month probation period. </strong></p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong><br />
1.Recruit schools, adult volunteers, companies and government organizations in the initiative.<br />
2.Create project plans, budgets and reports on a semester-basis; and report primarily to the R&amp;S Shanghai Office’s Eco-Office Coordinator, as well as to the R&amp;S Beijing Office and the British Council China.<br />
3.Organize and facilitate workshops to train students and adult volunteers on environmental auditing and reporting.<br />
4.Create and maintain database to keep track of all audit reports and generate ranking as needed.<br />
5.Actively promote the program by speaking at business events, meet with business leaders and work with British Council Press Officers to seek opportunities to advertise the program through media and collect all relevant media reports.<br />
6.Work with environmental experts to ensure the technical viability of the program.<br />
7.Assess the program on a semester basis using quantitative and qualitative methods.<br />
8.Work with R&amp;S Project Officers to keep track of, and promote, R&amp;S groups’ involvement, and contribute to Roots &amp; Shoots Beijing Office efforts to motivate school groups to actively create their own projects, represent Roots &amp; Shoots Beijing Office at events, and update school contact information database.<br />
9.Liaise with staff working on the British Council’s Climate Cool initiative to integrate Eco-Office with their efforts.<br />
10.Contribute to Roots &amp; Shoots Newsletters, E-Newsletters; as well as British Council Climate Cool and other publications.</p>
<p><strong>Requirements:</strong><br />
-At least 3-5 years of Volunteer or/and non-profit/NGO working and/or teacher/trainer experience, especially with events planning and organization; or/and some prior experience as a teacher or trainer.<br />
-Bilingual, with superior abilities in English and Chinese<br />
-Able to manage projects, oversee many activities simultaneously, organize and prioritize tasks<br />
-Able to promote the concepts and vision of the Roots &amp; Shoots Program<br />
-Open, friendly attitude and determination to build relationships with partners and to encourage participation and communication from partners.<br />
-Energetic and takes initiative, action-oriented and has organizational skills; ability to document and follow-through on projects is vital<br />
-Strong ability to work as a member of a team and to build effective relations with partners, students and colleague.<br />
-Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), internet searching skills and database maintenance computer skills</p>

<p>The Partnership Specialist works to develop and leverage strong partner relationships with governments, NGOs,  community organizations, indigenous groups, national affiliates of international conservation and development organizations, scientific/research organizations, business and private sector and others to advance the Conservancy’s mission.  S/he works closely with Country Program staff, Regional technical specialists, and other Conservancy professionals to implement systems and processes that support these strategic partnerships.  Specific systems and processes include: partner scoping and identification, partner profiles and organizational lifecycle stages, partner selection and engagement, facilitation of agreements, work-planning and on-going partner relations, partner communications, organizational assessments, strengthening technical and organisational capacities, and integration of financial management/grants training activities.  S/he systematically implements outcomes and impact measures with project managers to indicate the progress and/or obstacles of programs in achieving leverage through partnerships.  S/he works as part of a team to raise funds for partnership initiatives and/or specific projects, by providing input for proposal writing, negotiating with bilateral and multilateral agencies, and cultivating donors, as needed. </p>

<p>The Director of External Affairs and Policy for North Asia is responsible for establishing the policy agenda, partnership strategy and public funding program for The Nature Conservancy’s conservation work in the North Asia Pacific Region, under the supervision of the Conservancy’s Regional Managing Director for North Asia. Working with major public institutions, governments in the region, multilateral agencies, NGOs, public officials, influential individuals and TNC staff, the Director will position the Conservancy within the region with opinion leaders and institutions as a leading organization for global conservation work.  Based on an understanding of how the Conservancy’s action complements the work of other NGOs, governments and conservation organizations, s/he will establish and articulate to policy and funding audiences a compelling vision of how biodiversity conservation and the Conservancy’s specific projects contribute to regional and global development goals, environmental objectives and human wellbeing.  </p>

<p>EVENTS: Lectures and events that presents the work of a designer that leads by example: the challenges and the solutions. The lectures serve as a platform for sharing ‘best of practice’ knowledge and ideas about local solutions to sustainability.<br />
CASE: A series of case studies showcasing projects to learn from.<br />
OUTREACH: Lectures and education in universities, workshops and more on the boards.</p>
<p>Structure: GIGA is a non-profit group created and managed by professionals and supported by volunteers and sponsors.</p>
<p><strong>Short term needs</strong></p>
<p>After the incredible feedback generated by the first website, GIGA is expanding as an organization and currently working on the website’s second iteration. Its aims to be more interactive, user-driven and easy to use. With the second website up in September, a course at Tongji University and key upcoming lectures, GIGA will be in a strong position to receive sponsorship. However, we need the help of volunteers to get us there.</p>
